SmartUp joined the V1 team as embedded engineers for two years, working directly inside their processes, their tools, their sprints. Our engineers contributed significant improvements to the V1 Golf and V1 Baseball apps, and built and launched V1 Coach: a brand new app giving teaching professionals in-app video annotation, lesson delivery, and full athlete management in one place.

Rebuilding a legacy platform without losing the pros.
V1’s user base includes some of the most demanding professionals in sport: coaches who have used the same tools for 20+ years and have strong, specific opinions about what good video analysis feels like. Any changes to the platform had to improve the experience without breaking the workflows they depended on daily.
V1 also needed to build a new product entirely: V1 Coach, a dedicated app for teaching professionals that didn’t yet exist. SmartUp engineers embedded into the team to help ship meaningful improvements across the existing apps while building V1 Coach from the ground up, in parallel, on the same timeline.

Pro Video Engine
4K recording with frame-by-frame playback at 240fps and zero-lag scrubbing. Two swings or pitches can be compared side by side with fully synchronized playback, the analysis workflow professional coaches depend on.
Coach Communication Hub
In-app annotated video messaging between coaches and athletes: draw angles and lines directly on the frame, add voice-over, and send the clip. Athletes receive it in their app and reply in-thread, keeping every lesson inside V1.
Academy Management Dashboard
Multi-athlete tracking and lesson scheduling for teaching professionals: see students’ recent sessions, follow improvement over time, and manage a full roster of athletes and bookings in one place.
