One platform for the whole barn

SmartUp built OnStride to replace the spreadsheets, sticky notes, and group texts that boarding, training, and lesson barns run on, bringing horse health records, staff scheduling, billing, and boarder communication into one web dashboard and companion mobile app.

Overview

OnStride is an all-in-one management platform built specifically for boarding, training, and lesson barns. It brings horse health records, staff scheduling, client billing, and boarder communication into a single web dashboard and companion mobile app, replacing the mix of spreadsheets, group texts, whiteboards, and paper binders that most equestrian businesses run on today.

SmartUp built the product around how a barn actually works, rather than adapting generic small-business software for horses. Barns go live within days through a guided, white-glove onboarding process, and pricing is custom-quoted per operation rather than sold as a fixed, generic plan.

The core value proposition isn’t a feature list, it’s time: OnStride is designed to take the admin off an owner’s plate and give the barn back 10+ hours a week.

The Problem

When a simple question takes three people to answer, the barn has lost control of its own operation.

Running a barn means juggling a set of operational needs that have nothing to do with horses directly: tracking who’s paid their board, keeping every horse’s feed plan and vaccination record current and visible to the right staff, scheduling lessons and shifts across a team, and fielding a constant stream of boarder questions about all of the above.

In most barns, that information lives scattered across sticky notes, group texts, a shared spreadsheet, and whoever happens to remember the feed chart that day. OnStride’s goal was to replace that patchwork with a single connected system built specifically around how a barn actually works, not generic software repurposed for horses.

From horse profile to payment, in one workflow

What We Built

Horse Management

A searchable profile per horse with health records, feed plans, vaccination history, and recent vet or farrier activity, all viewable from a phone in the barn aisle. Feed plans, Coggins tests, and farrier visits are modeled as first-class objects, not force-fit into generic categories.

Team Scheduling

One live, shared calendar with drag-and-drop shifts, availability blocking, and role-based mobile access for the whole staff. It replaces the group texts and the whiteboard nobody fully trusts, so every groom and trainer sees the same day’s plan.

Invoicing & Billing

Custom rates per horse, recurring board invoices, and Stripe-powered autopay, so bills go out and money comes in without manual chasing. The days of running down checks by hand at the end of every month are over.

Boarder Portals

A private, self-serve account per client to view invoices, horse records, and lesson history, and to message the barn directly, instead of texting at 9 PM. The portal answers most boarder questions before they ever have to be asked.

Trainer Accounts & Lesson Booking

Dedicated trainer logins with student rosters and revenue dashboards, plus real-time lesson booking with automated waitlists for clients. Trainers see their book and their income in the same place they run their day.

One Connected Workflow

Everything is connected end to end: a horse profile update triggers a staff task, which feeds a scheduled invoice, which is collected via autopay, all as one continuous flow instead of four disconnected tools. Information entered once flows automatically to the next step.

Why it wins in a niche, underserved market

What Sets It Apart

Built for barn-specific workflows

Feed plans, Coggins tests, farrier visits, and lesson packages are modeled as first-class objects in the product, not shoehorned into a generic CRM.

White-glove onboarding

The OnStride team configures the horse roster, billing templates, and team roles directly during onboarding, getting a barn live within days instead of asking owners to self-serve a complex setup.

A true mobile companion

The free OnStride app mirrors the full web dashboard, so grooms can check off feed rounds and trainers can see the day’s board from the barn aisle, syncing instantly with the desk.

Custom, barn-sized pricing

Rather than a one-size-fits-all subscription tier, pricing scales to the size of the operation, quoted on a demo call, with no long-term contract and month-to-month cancellation.

In operationally heavy, low-tech-adoption industries like equestrian management, the winning product isn’t the one with the most features, it’s the one that maps precisely onto how the business already runs, and removes enough friction from switching that the barn actually completes the transition instead of reverting to spreadsheets and group texts.
